Skills
I bring over 16 years of corporate experience, having worked in a financial institution at my last employment. Ten core skills make me a compelling lecturer and a suitable candidate for this role.
First, I can work well with a diverse range of people, both the students I am teaching and the staff who make up the lecturing team.
Second, I am highly organised and can develop lesson plans accordingly to deliver consistent and high-standard teaching proactively, with no supervision.
Third, I have extensive and in-depth knowledge of the subject matter. At my last employment, I taught the bank's subsidiaries at a training school (physical training in Tanzania- 40 entry-level staff). At the commencement of my doctoral studies in April 2022, the bank also approached me to train its middle-level employees virtually (150 staff). Further, while working with the bank, I conducted several in-house training to members of my division. I was a teaching assistant to my director of studies during my doctoral studies. I was tasked with preparing teaching materials for DBA and Global MBA students
and supporting students and the overall learning experience. The teaching materials were mainly obtained from recently published journal articles.
Fourth, I have good oral and written communication skills. I am a highly effective presenter, having presented at several management risk committees and training at my last employment.
Fifth, I am highly inquisitive and eager to acquire and share knowledge with students, peers, and other stakeholders within the institution. This skill puts me in the blue ocean due to my proactiveness. This curiosity led me to pursue my PhD study at Derby Business School. Though I commenced my doctoral journey in January 2022, I concluded my thesis in May 2024 and recently submitted and defended my thesis (i.e., viva examination). This shows my hard work and unrelenting effort to explore uncharted waters and stand out. While doing my research, I also published an article on dark clouds of leadership in the International Studies of Management and Organization Journal.
Sixth, I believe in teamwork and have an excellent work ethic. I abide by the institution's code of conduct, ethics, rules, and regulations.
Seventh, I am very flexible and can work under pressure. Specifically, at my last employment, I had to develop a regulatory policy within 4 days due to the tight submission date and the unwillingness of the actual process owner to establish the policy.
Eighth, I have good analytical skills, which have been enhanced during my doctoral studies. I have excellent Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint skills. Further, I can use other statistical tools like SPSS and AMOS to aid in data quantification and analysis. I have experience in risk quantification using the value-at-risk model, a marked-to-market model, an earning-at-risk model, and various stress test models.
Ninth, I have the ability to build strong professional relationships due to my innate soft skills, such as sociability, friendliness, care, empathy, helpfulness, people management, good leadership, and excellent problem-solving skills. Despite these soft skills, I uphold the organisation's ethical standards and ensure they are not compromised.
Tenth, my inquisitiveness makes me a strategic thinker. I am constantly urged to be abreast of the latest developments in the sector/industry, current research, regulatory pronouncements, and the big picture that peers are yet to see.
These 10 major skills and my vast corporate experience, I believe, give me an edge to be a suitable candidate for the leadership lecturer position.
