We're working with a specialist SEMH school in Sunderland that is seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate English Teacher to join their team on a full time basis.
This specialist setting supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and provides a nurturing, therapeutic environment where young people are encouraged to develop confidence, resilience and a love of learning.
We're looking for an inspiring English Teacher who understands the importance of relationships and can create engaging learning experiences that help pupils achieve their potential.
Responsibilities
- Planning and delivering creative English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4
- Adapting lessons to meet the diverse needs of pupils with SEMH needs
- Creating a positive and inclusive classroom environment
- Supporting pupils' emotional wellbeing alongside academic progress
- Assessing, monitoring and recording pupil achievement
- Working collaboratively with teaching assistants, pastoral teams and senior leaders
- Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement through relationship based practice
Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
- Experience teaching English within a secondary setting
- A strong understanding of SEMH needs and trauma informed approaches (desirable)
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills
- A calm, patient and resilient attitude
- A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
