Overview
Are you an experienced Reception Teaching Assistant with a passion for Early Years education? Do you have the patience, warmth and confidence to support young children in a nurturing classroom environment?
A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Barnet, Finchley is seeking a dedicated Reception Teaching Assistant to join their outstanding Early Years team from September 2026. This is a full time temporary role, ideal for a personable and proactive assistant who enjoys supporting children's development during these crucial early years.
As a Reception Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside an experienced class teacher in a Reception class, supporting whole class learning while providing targeted support to a bright child with Autism. The child is verbal but has a limited vocabulary and often communicates through gestures and body language. This is not a formal 1:1 role, but you will play an important part in helping him access learning whilst supporting the wider class.
Responsibilities
- Support teaching and learning across the Reception classroom
- Help deliver engaging EYFS activities and learning experiences
- Provide targeted support for a child with Autism alongside whole class responsibilities
- Encourage communication, social interaction and independence
- Work collaboratively with the class teacher and Early Years team
- Promote positive behaviour and a love of learning
Requirements
- Previous EYFS or Early Years experience is essential
- Experience supporting children with Autism or additional needs is desirable
- Calm, patient and nurturing approach
- Strong communication and relationship building skills
- Ability to use initiative and adapt to children's individual needs
- A genuine passion for helping young children thrive
