Job Description
The postholder's duties will mainly involve, but will not necessarily be limited to:
- Working 1:1 with a pupil with an EHCP, working towards their EHCP outcomes and targets and supporting them both within the classroom, and on a pastoral level.
- Will be managed on a day-to-day basis by The Head of Learning Support/SENDCo.
- Liaising with the SENDCo to complete formal documentation and paperwork regarding the pupil.
- Will oversee targets and plans relating to the pupil.
- Will on occasion work with small groups with a range of students in a flexible but supportive manner within class, in order to help them remain motivated and access their learning.
- Will deliver 1:1 targeted intervention, in line with the students needs. Work to be set by the SENDCo.
- When needed, will act to calm situations and offer a sympathetic ear to students - feeding any concerns that arise through the school's established pastoral and academic support structures.
- Will be aware of the pupils medical needs and support where needed.
- Will undertake training in relation to the specific needs of the pupil.
- Will on occasion work within the general classroom environment when the pupil is in an alternate activity.
- Will meet with students regularly to assist them in meeting the expectations of the school's routines.
- Will, on occasion, liaise with the pupils parents, as agreed with the SENDCo and maintain relevant notes.
- May be required to undertake a range of general support roles for teachers outside of the Learning Support Department, having agreed them with the SENDCo or Deputy Head Academic.
- Will assist students with the production of their work on electronic devices.
- May be assigned other duties by the SENDCo including: administration, filing, photocopying, emailing pupils to arrange testing, and exam access arrangement documentation within King's Ely Senior School, when not working directly with the pupil.
- This document is not an exhaustive list but summarises the general role of the 1:1 teaching assistant. From time to time the role may be required to perform other duties as deemed appropriate by the Head of King's Ely Senior.
Person Specification
- To demonstrate a strong commitment to promote and enhance the educational experience and personal development of children within the school environment
- To show a lively and energetic approach to working with children, balanced by an ability to sympathetically empathise with, support and counsel children.
- Ideally will have attended previous training pertinent to this position (TA training, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, ASD and neurodiversity)
- To demonstrate an ability to inspire, guide and be a positive role model to children
- To be able to demonstrate personal integrity and reliability
- To be well organised and able to prioritise tasks independently
- To possess first rate inter-personal skills and enjoy teamwork within a specialist setting
- To communicate effectively and demonstrate previous experience of being a supportive member of a team
- To possess a keen sense of enquiry and enjoy learning more in order to support children.
- To show an awareness of safeguarding procedures and protocols in line with best practice.
Remuneration and Hours
- Monday - Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm term time only
- Start Date: September 2026

- Enrolment in the statutory auto-enrolment pension scheme. The employer and employee contribution rates for the auto-enrolment pension scheme are currently: Employee contribution 5% and Employer contribution 3%.
