Overview
The Clinical Skills Educator will be responsible for the day to day delivery of the clinical skills curriculum as specified by the University of Sheffield MBChB and BMedSci Nursing (Adult) Programmes, which are informed by the General Medical Council (GMC) and Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) skills requirements. You will work closely with the Patient as Educators team, the School of Clinical Dentistry, the School of Allied Health, Pharmacy, Nursing and Midwifery, and regional Associated Teaching Hospitals.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Plan, deliver and evaluate high quality clinical skills teaching sessions for undergraduate students across all Faculty of Health programmes, ensuring alignment with programme learning outcomes and the requirements of relevant professional and regulatory bodies.
- Contribute to the design, delivery and integration of simulation based education for all Faculty of Health students, including the use of high fidelity manikins and associated technologies such as SimMan and Virtual Reality.
- Regularly review and enhance teaching sessions, incorporating innovative and evidence based approaches that support the strategic aims of the Faculty of Health.
- Participate in the assessment and examination of undergraduate students across Health disciplines, including formative, summative and competency based clinical skills assessments.
- Organise and facilitate a range of clinical skills assessments.
- Engage in reflective practice and maintain responsibility for ongoing professional development to ensure teaching and clinical knowledge remain current and relevant.
- Contribute to the development of Interprofessional Education, working with academics from across the Faculty.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, clinical partners, regional NHS Trusts to ensure teaching reflects clinical practice.
- Work collaboratively with other Faculty Clinical Skills Educators and CS academic Leads across the faculty of Health and associate teaching hospitals, to ensure consistency in teaching and assessment of Clinical Skills and Simulation.
- Deliver teaching sessions in Anatomy using the Anatomage Tables.
- Facilitate practice sessions for students that are using the clinical skills drop in rooms.
- Lead the planning, development and delivery of clinical skills and simulation activities within the Clinical Skills Centre (CSC), working closely with Professional services teams to ensure effective scheduling and coordination.
- Assist with the training of Patients as Educators (PaE) for teaching and assessment sessions including OSCE's and PaE induction sessions.
- Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.

Essential Criteria
- First degree or equivalent in medicine, nursing or another healthcare discipline.
- Current registration with a professional body (e.g., GMC, NMC, HPC or equivalent).
- Experience in teaching healthcare students and evidence of excellence in teaching.
- Good understanding of contemporary practice in UK healthcare education and assessment of clinical skills.
- Excellent team working skills and ability to liaise with clinical and academic staff.
- Experience of resource management and the ability to plan and progress work activities.
- The ability to motivate high performance in others.
- Ability to develop creative approaches to problem solving with an appreciation of longer term implications.
- Experience of adapting your own skills to new circumstances.
- Self motivated, proactive and able to recognise and maximise learning and teaching opportunities.
- Demonstrable high levels of professionalism.
- A postgraduate qualification in Teaching (e.g., FHEA, PGCert, MEd).
