We are seeking a Clinical Lecturer (Teaching) with enthusiasm for medical education and a commitment to fostering scholarship, inclusion, and educational excellence across our six-year MBBS programme.
UCL Medical School is currently reviewing its curriculum in response to changes within the NHS, developments in digital technology, and the introduction of the GMC Medical Licensing Assessment (MLA). The successful candidate will contribute to the development and delivery of new teaching initiatives as part of this work.
About the role
Working within UCL Medical School and alongside fellow Clinical Lecturers (Teaching), the post holder will support teaching delivery, curriculum design and development, scholarship activities, and a range of medical education projects across the MBBS programme. Reporting to the MBBS Senior Leadership Team, the role involves collaborating with colleagues across the Medical School to review and enhance teaching materials, develop innovative and inclusive learning approaches including online resources, and support high quality teaching practice in both classroom and clinical settings. The post holder will also contribute to admissions and widening participation activities, including Multiple Mini Interviews and the Target Medicine mentorship scheme, while engaging in professional development, educational scholarship, and wider academic activities across the Medical School.
- The post is available on a part time basis at 0.4FTE/14.6 hours and is graded on Grade 8 or CL8.
- Salary for Grade 8 ranges from £54,931 to £64,644 (pro rata £21,972.4 to £25,857.6) per annum including London allowance. Salary for CL8 ranges from £57,397 to £65,056 (pro rata £22,958.8 to £26,022.4) per annum.
- Applicants who work medically at a SAS grade under a separate contract with an NHS Trust or public health body will be placed on UCL's clinical pay scales as per the CL8 grade. They will be expected to join their clinical and this teaching roles under a single contract, as per the Follett Principles.
- You will be placed on CL8 if jointly combined with a medical role or G8 if standalone teaching position.
- The appointment is a fixed term contract, available from June 2026 as a maternity cover and is funded for 12 months or until the substantive post holder returns, whichever comes first.
- Due to the requirements of this role, we are unable to offer working hours below 0.4 FTE.
- This role is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 40% on site.
This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require right to work in the UK to carry out this role.
About you
You will hold a primary medical qualification with full GMC registration and have experience of teaching and assessment in undergraduate medical education across clinical and non clinical settings. You will bring a strong understanding of medical education, inclusive practice, and collaborative working, alongside excellent communication, organisational, and digital skills. We are looking for someone who is committed to educational excellence, continuous professional development, and supporting students and colleagues within a team environment. Experience within a medical school setting, curriculum development, virtual learning environments, or medical education scholarship would be advantageous.
