Lecturer in Natural Sciences (Biology / Chemistry)
We are looking for a fixed term lecturer to join the School of Life, Health and Chemical Sciences, contributing to the development of our Stage 1 (FHEQ Level 4) Natural Sciences curriculum and to our research profile. The role requires experience teaching biology or chemistry at Level 4 and a commitment to innovative, online learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Be an active member of the School of Life, Health and Chemical Sciences, helping deliver academic excellence across teaching and research.
- Work as part of teams to design, produce and present asynchronous online materials for Natural Sciences, biology and/or chemistry programmes.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders and new technologies to ensure the curriculum is future focussed, imaginative and innovative.
- Develop a research portfolio that aligns with the School's strategy, attracting external funding and enhancing its reputation.
- Contribute to the University's submission to future Research Excellence Framework exercises.
About You
Essential
- A PhD in Biology, Chemistry, Natural Sciences or a relevant discipline.
- Experience teaching biology or chemistry at FHEQ Level 4.
- Experience teaching at FHEQ Level 5 or above in a relevant area.
- Understanding of modern technologies for engaging learning, and a commitment to innovation.
- Evidence of successful research that complements the School's existing work.
- Broad knowledge of developments relevant to teaching and/or research in your discipline.
- Ability to work in accordance with the University's values and policies.
- Excellent teamwork and the ability to meet agreed deadlines.
Desirable
- Understanding of supported open and distance learning and experience producing asynchronous online or distance learning materials.
- Experience teaching within an interdisciplinary context.
- Experience teaching both biology and chemistry at FHEQ Level 5 and above.
- Higher Education professional accreditation or equivalent teaching qualification.
