We are pleased to invite applications for a locally employed clinical lecturer (SCF grade) in Cardiology as part of the cross-site cardiology team at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
This post is open only to candidates who have completed, or are nearing completion of a higher research degree such as a PhD or MD. The role is ideally suited to doctors seeking to gain the relevant clinical and research experience to develop a clinical academic career.
As locally employed clinical lecturer you will join a busy and well supported cardiology with excellent training opportunities for 50% of your week. Clinical sessions will include dedicated cardiac catheter laboratory lists, echocardiography sessions, outpatient and inpatient care. There is also the opportunity to participate in the GIM on call rota for those wishing to further develop their Acute and General Medicine experience. The remaining 50% of time will be focussed on both supporting the increasing research work of the service with projects including remote monitoring, novel technologies and AI. You will also be encouraged and supported to develop your own independent research programme.
Main duties of the job
The post will be cross-site and is fully integrated into the cardiology middle-grade rota.
This is an exciting opportunity for a post PhD researcher to develop both clinical and research skills. The clinical component will include care of a full range of cardiology inpatient and outpatients, working as part of a consultant led team, training in cardiac catheter techniques including cardiac catheterisation and brady pacing as well as cardiac imaging.
There is also opportunity to carry out supervised outpatient clinics and MDTs. The post holder will participate in Cardiology on calls and general medicine on calls. Leave will be accommodated and you will have time to develop a specialist interest.
Key responsibilities
- Clinical care of cardiology inpatients and outpatients, including catheterisation, pacing and imaging.
- Participate in cardiology and general medicine on call duties.
- Deliver supervised outpatient clinics and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Conduct research projects related to remote monitoring, novel technologies and artificial intelligence.
- Develop and maintain an independent research programme.
- Advise and support junior staff and trainees in clinical and research skills.
Person specification
- Full GMC Registration and Licence to practice.
- MBBS/MD or equivalent with full MRCP (or MRCP part 1 and 2 with recent PACES).
- Advanced Life Support Provider.
- Higher Research Degree completed or awaiting viva.
- Experience as a Medical Registrar or equivalent core medical training.
- Knowledge of research governance and data management.
- Strong organisational, analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in IT and computer systems.
- Experience and commitment to multidisciplinary teamwork, teaching and continuing medical education.
- Commitment to the values and goals of the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
