About the Role
Teacher (12 Month Fixed Term - Maternity Cover) - Full time, 37.5 hours per week, term time only. Fixed Term: 12 months. Salary: £21,501 - £38,628 per annum. This role provides maternity cover at Birchwood School, Cardiff.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver differentiated lessons aligned to individual learning needs.
- Create a calm, structured, and supportive classroom environment.
- Use positive behaviour support strategies in line with school policies.
- Monitor, assess, and record pupil progress.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and parents/carers.
- Support pupils' wellbeing, including personal care where required.
- Lead, coach, and support Learning Support Assistants to ensure high quality classroom practice.
- Promote safeguarding, equality and inclusion at all times.
Essential Qualifications
- GCSEs (A -C or equivalent), including English and Maths.
- A child centred approach and passion for inclusive education.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to support complex needs.
- Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.
- Experience supporting or leading others in a classroom environment.
Desirable Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Experience working with pupils with Autism, SEMH or additional learning needs.
- Confidence working within a multidisciplinary team.
- A creative, flexible and reflective approach to teaching and learning.
- Experience coaching or mentoring support staff.
