Experteer Overview
In this role you support high-quality cardiothoracic care across the patient pathway, from theatre to wards and clinics. You work autonomously with patients, assist in surgical procedures, and lead service development through audit and guidelines. You will mentor colleagues and contribute to multidisciplinary care in a forward-thinking department. - Provide expert, autonomous care to cardiothoracic patients pre-, intra-, and post-surgery
- Undertake comprehensive patient assessments and contribute to treatment planning
- Support recovery and discharge planning to ensure continuity of care
- Act as first or second assistant in theatre for cardiothoracic procedures
- Perform conduit harvesting for CABG (supervised for trainees, independent for Senior SCP)
- Maintain aseptic technique and surgical safety standards
- Lead and mentor junior colleagues and trainee SCPs/nursing staff
- Contribute to service development through audit, research, and guideline creation
- Support multidisciplinary team working and promote evidence-based practice
- Deliver teaching and support professional development of colleagues
- Participate in clinical audit, risk management, and service evaluation
- Ensure compliance with local and national standards of cardiothoracic care
Tasks
- MSC in Surgical Care Practice
- Evidence of recent CPD in the last 2 years
- EVH trained with minimum 100 independent cases
- Demonstrable post-qualification experience
- Desirable: non-medical prescribing
- Desirable: tertiary centre experience; cardiothoracic experience
