Elementa are recruiting for a Learning Support Assistant to work within a secondary school setting in Taunton, supporting students aged 11-16. The students you will work with may have identified SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) and SCLN (Speech, Communication and Language Needs), and some may have an EHCP or require additional support to access the curriculum.
Your role will be to work alongside teaching staff to provide high-quality support, helping students engage in learning and make positive progress both academically and socially.
This role can be challenging at times, as some students may present with behaviours that require patience, consistency and strong behaviour management skills. Previous experience working with young people with additional needs, either in a school or similar setting, is essential.
Due to the nature of the role, a DBS on the update service is required, as delays in processing could impact start dates and staffing needs.
You will act as a positive role model for students, supporting both their learning and personal development. Key duties include:
- Providing academic and pastoral support to students to help them overcome barriers to learning
- Supporting teachers in the classroom and helping to adapt resources so all students can access lessons
- Working collaboratively with teaching and support staff to share effective strategies
- Supporting the school's behaviour policy and responding appropriately to challenging behaviour
- Encouraging students to make positive choices around behaviour, attendance and social interaction
- Supporting communication between school and families where appropriate to promote engagement
- Adhering to safeguarding, confidentiality and school policies at all times
- Assisting with monitoring and recording student progress, wellbeing and engagement
- Promoting high expectations and contributing to a positive and inclusive school culture
- Supporting whole school systems such as rewards and behaviour management
- Encouraging students to develop socially, emotionally and culturally within the wider school environment
- Being aware of individual student needs, including health needs, and communicating these effectively to relevant staff
If you have the relevant skills and experience necessary for this role then please apply with your full up to date CV.
