About the roleWe are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable individual to join our team as an Associate Lecturer. In this role, you will deliver a comprehensive molecular biology or mammalian cell culture course, providing hands‑on experiences with various techniques and methodologies.This role includes allocated time for CPD, conference attendance, and research grant writing to further your research career.£32,000-£38,000 per annum (£300 per day for additional weekend course delivery)Key Responsibilities Teaching (23 weeks per year or 230 learners per year): provide teaching of mammalian cell culture, ELISA, Western Blotting, Microbiology, or PCR techniques as required using various pedagogical methods such as small‑group teaching, practical work, student‑centred learning, assessment for learning and questioning.Administration and pastoral work (23 days per year): complete assessments of students, provide formative and summative feedback, support students during and after courses, and contribute to student admissions processes including interviews and selection panels.Health & Safety: create and review all related risk assessments, ensure technicians, students and lecturing staff understand and follow laboratory health and safety, and ensure all team members complete the relevant health and safety assessments.Curriculum development and quality assurance (30 days per year): create and update written course materials and assessments, engage with feedback to enhance quality, adopt reflective pedagogical practices, attend standardisation and moderation meetings, and work with the Quality Assurance Manager to ensure course materials and equipment are fit for purpose.External lectures (22 days per year): deliver lectures at schools and universities to promote courses and research.Personal development (20 days): attend external conferences, training and COPD events; prepare grant submissions to further your own research work.Competency Criteria Qualifications, Training & KnowledgePhD (working towards) in a relevant biological science – EssentialUnderstanding and ability to undertake research – EssentialPGCE or equivalent – DesirableExperience2+ years of experience in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Cell biology or Microbiology – EssentialExperienced in lecturing/teaching – DesirableExperience in a regulated laboratory environment – DesirableExperience in scientific project development & planning – EssentialSkills & BehaviorsStrong communication skills – EssentialShows confidence in communication with external stakeholders and funding bodies – EssentialWell‑developed organisational skills – EssentialStrong ability to take initiative and work without supervision – EssentialConfidence in making decisions within area of expertise – EssentialAble to work efficiently and cooperatively as part of a team – EssentialAbility to review documentation and make amendments within guidelines – EssentialStrong negotiation skills – EssentialAbility to analyse and solve problems – EssentialAbility to work calmly under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances – Essential#J-18808-Ljbffr
