A Typical Day in the Life of a FM Skills Coach:
As a FM Skills Coach, you will play a key role in guiding and mentoring apprentices as they progress through their learning journey. A typical day includes:
- Delivering one-to-one and group training and assessment for apprentices in the FM sector. This includes on-line delivery as well as on-site training where the candidates work.
- Visiting apprentices at their workplace every 12 weeks to assess progress and provide on-site coaching, helping them meet key milestones.
- Developing and delivering training sessions focused on real-world skills and scenarios, preparing apprentices for senior roles in FM management.
- Providing feedback and support, ensuring apprentices meet their academic and practical goals, while also offering career guidance.
- Planning your schedule around your apprentices’ needs, ensuring regular check-ins and structured learning pathways.
Workloads and Flexibility at Mercury: A Key Benefit
- At Mercury, we offer a unique advantage with our lower apprentice-to-coach ratio compared to most apprenticeship providers in England. This ensures you’ll have a more manageable caseload, allowing you to dedicate quality time to each apprentice without overwhelming workloads.
- We are committed to regularly reviewing caseloads to support your work-life balance and ensure you have ample time for family, friends, and personal well‑being. While the role may involve working across various shifts—days, evenings, nights, and weekends—due to the 24/7 nature of the security industry, you’ll benefit from the flexibility to manage your own schedule.
- With about 50% of your time spent traveling to support apprentices, we give you the autonomy to plan your work in a way that suits you. Plus, you’ll always have strong backing from the management team and your fellow Skills Coaches, fostering a supportive and collaborative work environment.
