Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor in Financial Technology
The School of Engineering Mathematics and Technology at the University of Bristol is seeking to make an academic appointment in Financial Technology at Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will join us at an exciting time – Bristol has a rapidly expanding profile in AI, including leading UKRI AI hubs and the ProAI Centre for Doctoral Training.
Our school has a rich interdisciplinary applications environment with strengths in AI and Financial Technology.
What will you be doing?
The postholder will conduct internationally excellent research in the Financial Engineering Lab, a sub‑group of the Intelligent Systems Lab. We are particularly interested in research at the interface of Fintech and AI, including AI for finance, automated trading, agent‑based modelling of financial systems, blockchain‑based decentralised finance, and financial machine learning. The postholder will also carry out excellent research‑led teaching and related admin duties, supporting the MSc Financial Technology with Data Science.
For Associate Professor level, there will be leadership responsibilities across teaching and research.
You should apply if
You should apply if your research work involves financial technology (e.g., AI for finance, decentralised finance, etc.) and you have experience in teaching in this area or a strong desire to do so at Lecturer level. For Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor level you should have strong evidence of leadership in research, teaching and administration. The ideal candidate will have experience of large‑scale data engineering on commercial cloud service stacks such as GCP, AWS or Azure, and associated machine learning platforms such as Sage Maker and Vertex, as well as experience of decentralised application development on Ethereum blockchains.

Grade J £43,482 – £50,253 per annum;
Grade K £50,253 – £58,225 per annum (determined by skills, qualifications and experience) - Closing date: 23:59 UK time on Tuesday 3rd February 2026
