About the role
RWE Renewables offers an opportunity for motivated people to begin a career in renewable energy with a 3‑year Wind Turbine Technician Apprenticeship. The first two years are at our apprenticeship providers:
Coleg Llandrillo, Rhyl in North Wales or IPS International, Rochester. third year provides on‑site training aboard the Fleet Servicing Service Operations Vessel supporting turbine maintenance at Greater Gabbard and London Array in the UK, and Amrumbank, Kaskasi and Nordsee Ost in Germany.
Our Wind Turbine Technicians work as part of a small offshore team focused on specific wind farms. Successful candidates will learn to carry out all aspects of wind turbine maintenance – scheduled, unscheduled, proactive and troubleshooting – and will gain an NVQ level 3 qualification in Engineering upon completion.
Responsibilities include:
- Electro/Mechanical problem solving of wind turbines at height in remote locations with user manuals as reference.
- Working with advanced mechanical, hydraulic and electrical equipment in a safe manner.
- Planning in advance the tools, spares and materials required for each job.
- Fault finding and diagnosis of wind turbine main component condition to determine if site repair is possible or if unit replacement is required.
- Ongoing personal development and training to become a multi‑skilled technician covering all aspects of inspection, maintenance and repair.
Candidate Requirements
Fleet Servicing is an established team within Offshore Operations responsible for the annual servicing of wind turbines from a Service Operations Vessel. Services run 24/7 year‑round, with a 14‑days‑on/14‑days‑off rotation from UK and German ports. The role requires willingness to learn, practical hands‑on work, and the flexibility for standby or on‑call duty. Candidates must be aged 18 or over by August 2026 and able to travel internationally for service ports.
Job Requirements and Experience
- 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) at 4/C or above including Science, Maths and English.
- Willing to learn and develop.
- Able to work at height.
- Able to work at sea.
- Willing to undertake international travel to the service ports.
- Willing to work shifts, staying up to 2 weeks on a SOV.

Accommodation & Travel
Term‑time accommodation will be provided with rent and utilities paid by RWE. Travel to college each day is also paid unless group travel is provided. Weekly allowance for food and drink while away from home during term time.
