About the Department of Culture, Communication and Media (CCM)
The Department of Culture, Communication and Media (CCM) is a department of IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society. It is committed to excellence in teaching, research and consultancy in the areas of: Media and Cultural Studies, Art, Design and Museology; Academic writing; English education: Applied Linguistics; Music Education; Multimodality studies; Learning with Digital Technologies.
About the role
The Art Education, Culture and Practice (AECaP) MA examines the relationship between art practice, culture and pedagogy and enables students to develop innovative approaches to educational research across sites for education, such as art colleges, schools, galleries and alternative spaces for art education. Previously known as the Art and Design in Education MA, AECAP’s alumni go on to be key influencers in the expanded field of art education
The postholder will play an important role in supporting the Module Leader in preparing and delivering content for the Dissertation Module of the MA They will not only bring a valuable specialism to the range of expertise required for the programme but, with their extensive knowledge and experience across various aspects of art education culture and practice, will provide the key role in supervising and assessing students’ MA dissertations.
This post is available for one year in the first instance.
About you
You will have a Doctorate in the field of Art Education or Gallery Education or close to completion along with proven ability to promote and sustain innovative art pedagogies in formal or informal sites for learning including schools and galleries.
You will also have the ability to promote Master’s students’ engagement with key issues affecting art education including, questioning canonic points of reference, new materialism, socially engaged practice, education for social justice, contested histories of art education and art education in and for a global context.
