Key Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver engaging lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions in core areas of astrophysics, including cosmology, stellar evolution, galactic dynamics, and observational techniques. Design and update course materials, ensuring they are current with advancements in the field. Conduct high-impact research in a chosen area of astrophysics, publishing findings in leading peer-reviewed journals. Secure external funding for research projects through grant applications. Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students undertaking research projects, dissertations, and theses. Contribute to the department's outreach activities, promoting astrophysics to a wider audience. Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum development, and quality assurance processes. Mentor junior academic staff and support the professional development of colleagues. Foster collaborations with researchers both within the university and at other institutions nationally and internationally. Contribute to the academic administration and leadership within the department as required.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
A PhD in Astrophysics, Astronomy, or a closely related field. A strong and demonstrable track record of high-quality research and publication in astrophysics. Significant experience in university-level teaching and curriculum development. Proven ability to attract research funding. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
