About the Role
Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS) is the National Development Body for Scotland's museums and galleries. We support a sector of 449 museums and galleries, through strategic investment, workforce development, advice and advocacy. We are seeking a Workplace Assessor to work as part of the Workforce team to deliver vocational learning opportunities. You will be a key part of the MGS Assessment Centre and will assess and support to recruit candidates for the qualifications we deliver.
A skilled communicator who builds strong and effective relationships, the Workplace Assessor will have a caseload of candidates to assess primarily for the Museums and Galleries Technician Modern Apprenticeship and the SVQ Level 7 in Museums and Galleries Practice. This caseload will expand to assess the Management Modern Apprenticeship SVQ at Level 7 and the Digital Marketing Modern Apprenticeship and Level 6 & 7.
The Workplace Assessor will engage with candidates and employers as appropriate and ensure that all qualifications that are assessed meet the compliance standards and are delivered within the agreed timescales. Overview of Responsibilities
- To assess Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQ) as part of the Museums Galleries Scotland Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) Assessment Centre.
- Manage a caseload of learners using the OneFile e-portfolio system
- Attend and contribute to qualification standardisation sessions held by MGS
- Create learning resources, assessment plan templates and strategies for learners
- Work in compliance with standards set by external partners, such as SQA and Skills Development Scotland
- Work to advocate for and promote the vocational qualifications delivered by MGS
- Assist with fulfilment of contract numbers from skills agencies such as Skills Development Scotland
- Maintain an overview of relevant vocational qualifications and identify and develop opportunities to meet sector needs
- Maintain an overview of the sector skills and knowledge of the needs for the museum sector
The above mentioned tasks and responsibilities constitute an overview and not an exhaustive list. Workload and priorities are ultimately determined by the annual MGS Operational Plan.

Skills and Experience
Essential
- Fully qualified L&D9DI workplace assessor
- Experience of delivery in an SQA Assessment Centre
- Demonstrable professional competency to deliver Museums and Galleries Practice SVQ
- Experience of creating resources and guidance documents
- Experience working in a museum, gallery, or cultural organisation
- Ability to build positive working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills including good facilitation skills
- Working with compliance systems and processes
- Confident using a range of systems and digital platforms
Preferred
- Knowledge of SQA qualification approval processes
- Professional competency to deliver Management, Digital Marketing and Cultural Venue Operations Apprenticeships
- Experience of delivering core skills at SCQF Level 6 and above
- L&D11 or willingness to work towards becoming an Internal Verifier
- Experience working to actively recruit new learners to fill contracts from agencies such as Skills Development Scotland
- Interest in inclusive ways of working
