Overview
I am currently working with a respected and expanding training provider who is seeking an experienced Designated Safeguarding Officer Trainer to join their team on a permanent basis.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a safeguarding professional with hands-on experience in children’s residential care to step into a rewarding training and development role. The position offers a blend of national travel for face-to-face delivery alongside home-based working, providing flexibility and autonomy.
The Role
As a DSO Apprenticeship Trainer, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and high-quality learning aligned to the Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard. You will work closely with apprentices in safeguarding roles, equipping them with the knowledge and practical skills required to succeed in their positions and meet End-Point Assessment (EPA) criteria.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver training and support in line with the Designated Safeguarding Officer Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard
- Facilitate a mix of online and in-person sessions to ensure relevant, contextualised learning experiences
- Track learner progress, provide regular feedback, and support successful EPA preparation
- Adapt delivery methods to meet individual learner needs and workplace environments
- Maintain compliance with ESFA funding rules, internal procedures, and Ofsted requirements
- Promote high standards of safeguarding practice and contribute to the development of the next generation of safeguarding professionals
About You – Essential Criteria
- At least 3 years’ experience in a safeguarding role within a children’s residential care setting
- Proven experience of carrying out risk assessments, managing safeguarding cases, referrals, and working with multi-agency teams
- Strong understanding of key legislation and statutory guidance, such as:
- Keeping Children Safe in Education
- Working Together to Safeguard Children
- Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015
- Ofsted’s Social Care Common Inspection Framework (SCCIF)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to simplify complex information
- Confident using virtual delivery platforms and Microsoft Office
- Willingness and ability to travel across the UK as required
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience delivering training, apprenticeships, or internal development programmes
- Understanding of Ofsted’s Education Inspection Framework
- Familiarity with the End-Point Assessment process
Qualifications Required
- Recognised teaching or training qualification (e.g. AET, CET, DET, TAQA or equivalent)
- Level 3 Designated Safeguarding Officer qualification (minimum)
- Functional Skills Level 2 (or equivalent) in English and Maths
- Full UK driving licence
