Maintenance Fitter – Manufacturing Industry

Working Hours: Monday to Thursday, 7:30am – 4:00pm; Friday, 7:30am – 2:00pm
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Maintenance Fitter to join a well-established manufacturing business in Consett. This role plays a key part in ensuring the smooth operation, maintenance, and repair of production machinery, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and contributing to a safe and efficient working environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out routine maintenance and repairs on production machinery to minimise downtime.
- Ensure the effectiveness of all safety guarding and compliance with company safety standards.
- Work closely with Production Supervisors to coordinate maintenance activities efficiently.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment failures, identifying root causes and implementing solutions.
- Support the installation of new machinery and contribute to continuous improvement projects.
- Collaborate with sub-contractors to ensure maintenance work aligns with health and safety regulations.
- Perform bench fitting, fabrication work, and other mechanical tasks as required.
- Maintain compliance with environmental procedures and report any issues promptly.
Key Skills & Experience:
- Strong knowledge of fabrication and MIG welding.
- Experience working with pneumatics and hydraulics.
- Basic understanding of lathes, vertical millers, and surface grinders.
- Press tool maintenance experience would be an advantage.
- Ability to work proactively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Well-organised, with the ability to prioritise tasks and respond to emergencies.
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations within a production setting.
- NVQ (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or Fabrication and Welding Engineering Technology, ideally gained through an apprenticeship.
