Job Description

Specialist Learning Support Assistant (term time only)

20 hours per week over three days, permanent position to commence as soon as possible

Grade: Fixed point 13 (£19,645.77 pro rata)

Bishop Auckland College is seeking to recruit a Specialist Learning Support Assistant who will be providing high quality individualised support to specific individuals who have sensory needs to ensure they develop their skills, knowledge and independence to achieve their full potential. This will require close collaborative planning with teachers, external specialist professionals and the confidence to enable students to become independent learners reducing the level of direct support over time.

This role will be to support learners in all areas of the college. This could be in a vocational practical / theory class, as well as Maths and English. The candidate may be allocated a learner on a 1-1 basis or in a group to support learning. The LSA must be willing to undertake further SEN specific training to support the role.

The successful candidate will be required to hold a CACHE L3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent Level 3 qualification in supporting in the classroom (or to work towards within 1 year) and GCSE English and Maths grade 4 or above / Level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy. It is desirable that the candidate will also possess Level 2 Equality & Diversity, Level 3 Adult Subject Support, a relevant vocational qualification, Teaching qualification eg PTLLS, and an IT qualification, and experience of working with sensory learners or willing to develop their skills.

This role will include responsibilities within safeguarding and the postholder will be engaging in regulated activity.
