Job Description

Summary of main purpose of Role

The main purpose of the role is to support and assist in maintaining an efficient and effective Higher Education learning space. This includes providing basic IT support s to learners, colleagues and customers to a high standard. This includes delivering outstanding customer care, technical help, IT support and represent the service and College in a highly professional manner at all times

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a quality service and high standard of support, advice and guidance to all customers at all times
  • Maintaining a good working environment, sending overdue notifications, taking and processing reservations, checking bibliographic sources of information, selling printer credits and cash handling and/or support, advice and assistance to customers with IT packages, coursework materials such as e-Library resources, MS Office and email queries
  • Assist with general clerical, administration and reception duties such as preparing documents, maintaining filing systems, scanning and photocopying when required
  • Prepare and monitor learning space usage both physically and via the PC booking system, and manage the learners using the Library and learning spaces
  • Set up and demonstrate equipment to users, including computers, basic audio-visual equipment and photocopiers
  • Support students with basic IT issues in the learning spaces such as logins, email set up and formatting of documents, reporting equipment faults when they arise
  • Maintain a working knowledge of MS Office, Windows, E-Library resources, LMS, the internet and keep up to date with IT hardware and software developments
  • Provide appropriate support associated with the preparation of learning materials; for example, proof reading and assignment presentation advice and guidance
  • Create displays to raise awareness, promote resources and market services including the use of social media platforms
  • Inform new colleagues and learners of the services available
  • Amend student records and data held on the library management system and other related systems as required
  • Build close working relationships with all cross College colleagues to ensure learning spaces services, resources and functions are being effectively utilised and maximised
  • Be responsible for personal health & safety, ensure sound working environments and maintain levels of security
  • Provide cover, respond to enquiries via email, telephone, text messaging and social media platforms and be part of a colleague rota at learner zone sites as required including evenings, weekends and recruitment events
  • Attend all meetings/training/Quality days as required
  • Support a culture which promotes the NCG values
