Job Description

The Training Programme Director (TPD) role is responsible for leading and co-ordinating the training of GP specialty trainees across the Blackpool training programmes.


This will include managing the programme for the future and ensuring it can adapt to meet the future needs of the NHS. The post holder will work with the Head of School, local Associate Dean (GP) and other local educators to ensure each post within the programme meets the standards defined by the GMC, Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) and HEE.


The post holder must be on the GMC GP Register with a minimum of one year’s post-CCT experience in the specialty. They must also meet the GMC standards for educational supervisors, be engaged in active clinical practice and in the revalidation process.


School Programme Management


  • To emphasise the importance and promote the development of a quality learning environment for all learners.


To support Postgraduate Dean in meeting all HEE statutory requirements.


  • To oversee programme management in the programme area and advise Postgraduate Deans on the following matters:
  • Specialty-specific matters and trainee and/or trainer concerns;
  • Delivery of the GP Curriculum
  • Recruitment to training posts and programmes
  • Postgraduate programme management, including assessments, structured teaching programme and associated budget, progression, rotations, support and remediation, OOP management, trainee management, careers support, less than fulltime training, inter-deanery transfers, Annual Development planning, study leave and academic training and other related work-streams.

HEE ensures that the workforce has the right skills, behaviours and training, and is available in the right numbers, to support the delivery of excellent healthcare and drive improvements through supporting healthcare providers and clinicians to take greater responsibility for planning and commissioning education and training.


To advise and support the Postgraduate Dean in educational and workforce development elements, including:


Professional Development of the local educational faculty


To support compliance with requirements particularly with regard to the supervision and support for trainees and learners.


To identify learning needs and support provision of educational appraisal, educator development and resource for faculty, trainees and learners locally.
